  • Orientation to College Counseling Program—what colleges evaluate in college admission decisions, EXPLORE Test explained and goal setting for freshman year (October)
  • Evening informational meeting for parents where PSAT and PLAN tests are explained. (September)
  • Introduction to College Board website and resources (October)
  • Explore testing (November)
  • Explore results explained (January)
  • Review of first semester grades, review goals (February)

Grade 10

  • Orientation to College Counseling Program—PSAT and PLAN tests explained also goal setting for sophomore year (September)
  • PSAT testing (October)
  • PLAN testing (November)
  • Evening informational meeting for parents where PSAT and PLAN tests are explained. (September)
  • Demonstration and sign-up of My College Quick Start for PSAT analysis and SAT prep
  • Review of first semester grades and cumulative GPA calculation, review goals (January)
  • Provide information about community service opportunities and volunteer opportunities at DSA (ongoing)
  • Guidance in Registering/Selecting next year’s classes in order to ensure admissions requirements to top universities are met (April)
  • Guidance for those students taking SAT II subject tests (June)
  • Information/Guidance about Summer College programs for high school students at Ivy League universities.

Grade 11 (Intensive program)

  • Orientation to College Counseling Program—what colleges evaluate in college admission decisions, information regarding important deadlines, set goals (September)
  • Evening informational meeting for parents where PSAT, SAT and ACT tests are explained (September)
  • PSAT testing (October)
  • Group registration for SAT (February/March)
  • Group registration for ACT (February)
  • PSAT results explained with review of My College Quick Start (December)
  • Attend College fairs throughout the year, research admissions requirements
  • Individual meetings between families and the college counselor Mrs. Jimenez
  • Individual meetings between the student and the counselor to go over grades and review goals
  • Dual Enrollment registration and guidance through FIU and MDCC
  • Scholarship research and guidance
  • College Prep Summer Planning: Information/Guidance about Summer College programs for high school students at Ivy League Universities, arrange college visits. (April/May)
  • Guidance in selecting and registering for senior year classes in order to ensure admissions requirements to top Universities are met. (April)

Grade 12 (Intensive program for 1st semester)

  • Orientation of college admission process for seniors, important deadlines, choose top 3 schools and 2 safe schools

  • Individual meetings between student and counselor, Mrs. Jimenez, throughout the application process
